CHILD HEALTH
All families with children under 5 years of age will automatically be contacted by the Health Visitors shortly after registering with the Practice. Immunisation clinics are held every Tuesday commencing at 9.30am. If you have not been sent an appointment and your child's immunisations are not up-to-date, please telephone the Health Visitor for advice. Child health screening is also available at the surgery. This involves the routine developmental and medical assessment of children under 5, and checks are carried out by your own GP and the Health Visitors by appointment.

THE WELL WOMAN & FAMILY PLANNING
We provide a full family planning service at the surgery including counselling, pill prescriptions, coil and diaphragm fitting and emergency contraception.

MATERNITY CARE
We provide Antenatal care in conjunction with the midwives at Devizes Maternity Unit, where we also oversee the delivery. Each doctor holds a weekly ante-natal clinic at the surgery. If you are visiting a clinic for the first time, let reception know so an appropriate appointment can be made. We do not routinely provide pregnancy testing and kits can be easily purchased from your local chemist.

MINOR SURGERY
We provide a full minor surgery service either in the surgery or at our local Community Hospital. This includes remove of "lumps and bumps", freezing and cautery of warts and verrucae, injections of joints and soft tissue injuries and hormone implants. Your doctor can advise.

NURSE TRIAGE
All patients requesting same day appointments to see a Doctor will be given the opportunity to speak with someone who is appropriately trained, who may be able to help you avoid an unnecessary trip to the surgery and at the same time avoid taking an emergency doctor's appointment when not entirely necessary. She will be able to discuss the problem with you, give advice if appropriate, arrange to see you or book an appointment with the doctor.

PROMOTING HEALTH
We provide a vigorous health education programme to enable you to live a healthy life. Well person checks can be booked with a member of the nurse team and topics covered include smoking, weight reduction, blood pressure and general lifestyle.

PRIVATE SERVICES
From time to time the practice provides private services on site, such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki Therapy and classes in Meditation techniques. These services fall outside the NHS and are provided by independent therapists for which a fee is charged. Leaflets are available at Reception.

SICK NOTES
There often seems to be some misunderstanding over when or why someone needs to obtain a medical certificate from his or her doctor. To qualify for SSP a medical certificate is no longer required for absences of seven days or less. If you are employed and absent from work due to ill health, you should obtain the DSS self- certification form (SC2) from your employer, or use your employer's own self- certification form, as some employers have designed their own. Please note, however, that these are rules for SSP purposes only. An employer may apply more stringent rules for occupational sick pay purposes. If you are self-employed you should obtain a copy of DSS SC1, supplies are available at reception or from the DSS.
